MERIT BADGE OPPORTUNITIES

FAMILY LIFE:  This is an Eagle badge. We were able to complete the classroom discussion in two sessions. Scouts have several home assignments to complete with help from their families. Scouts need to perform and track at least 5 chores for 90 days. Scouts also need to perfom one project that benefits their family and lead a second project that includes the participation of family members. Scouts should also lead or participate in family meetings and discuss the topics on their worksheets. Parents - please support your scouts in completing these activities. MB Counselor is Kevin Spala.

SPACE EXPLORATION: Merit badge classroom work completed during 3 Wednesdays (Oct 5, 12, 19) from 6-7pm in room 106 at the church. Scouts will learn about the history of space exploration, model rocket building, types of rocket engines, manned and unmanned space programs, the space shuttle and international space station, and careers in space exploration. Scouts will build and launch a model rocket. Launches can be done at our Rocket Weekend campout on Oct 21-23 at Camp Munhacke. MB Counselor is Kevin Spala.

Below are a couple of interesting websites on rocketry.

AVIATION: MB counselor is Kevin Spala at kevin.spala@gmail.com -- Four merit badge classes were completed in April. Scouts should finish workbook, MB blue card, and review with Mr. Spala before, during, or after troop meetings for merit badge "sign-off".

Scouts learned the uses and types of aircraft and engines, the forces of flight, airplane control surfaces, airplane certificates, aircraft instruments, and aviation careers. Scouts also built a simple, model FPG-9 plane, had an opportunity to fly an airplane simulator, and visited the Yankee Air Museum.
