        PHILMONT 2012

Reservation requests for Philmont crews will be made in mid November.  Any scout who is interested in being part of a crew going to Philmont in 2012 should be sure they sign up.

The  requirements for attending Philmont are the scout must be 14 years old OR completed 8th grade and be 13 years old prior to arriving at Philmont.  Adults may indicate their interest also but there is a limit to the number of adults that can attend with each crew.  A crew consists of 12 people maximum (2 adults min -- 4 adults max per crew)

We should hear back by January 2011 if we received our reservations.  If we do, there will be a non-refundable deposit required from each participant by mid or late February....update to follow.
Contact Phil Pairitz for questions.

GOING GREEN

As good stewards of the Earth, we need to do what we can to protect the environment. We are getting away from using disposable paper plates and styrofoam cups. Please purchase and keep with your gear, reusable, hard plastic diningware.

SUMMER CAMP AT COLE CANOE BASE

Summer camp 2011 -- July 31st through August 6th -- more details to come in spring 2011

All scouts attending 2011 summer camp will require the following forms to be filled out:

Medical Form – parts A, B, and C

    – if you have a current, valid physical form already available it can be attached to the form to complete part B.

Medical Supplement Form (for state of Michigan)

    – adults attending summer camp must have these first two forms completed appropriately and turned in

Medication form (only if your scout will need medication during camp)

All forms can be found in pdf form at the bottom of this page.

Also, at this same web site, there are a few other useful documents:

Leader’s Guide: details lots of details about summer camp – what to bring/not bring, rules, bike safety, etc.  It also has a great review & discussion of the merit badges.  FYI – if you review this online, pay attention to the actual page numbers in the document – it is made to be printed as a double sided stack and then folded in half to produce a booklet.  This makes it a bit of a challenge to follow it electronically.

Merit Badge Schedule: shows the meeting times for each merit badge, typically merit badge classes meet Mon-Thurs with Friday being a make-up day.

Activity Schedule: this is a general schedule of all things going on during the week.  Our troop may not participate in every item but scouts can attend appropriate items, with a buddy, if they see something that appeals to them. Talk it over once we get to camp.

Summer camp merit badge signup is now open – Kevin Spala will be the single source for getting all of our scouts signed up for merit badges.  When your scout has decided on the merit badges they want to take, contact Kevin with that list and he will complete the online process.

CAMPING CHECKLIST

A scout is prepared. A good way to be prepared is to use a checklist to make sure you have everything you need prior to leaving for a camping trip. Let me know if there are other items that should be added to our list. Hope this helps.

SCOUT SHOPS

There are a couple stores where you can buy uniforms, BSA handbooks, and other scouting essentials. Two of these places are Nankin Hardware in Westland and the Scout Shop in the Dauch BSA Headquaters in Detroit. For a map to these locations, click on the link below.
